A Commuter Route requested by a local cyclist
This will not be included in our regular Saturday rides but please send us a message if you would like to ride it with one of our volunteers to show you the way
It’s about 6 miles and takes around 40 minutes, depending on your preferred speed, faster than the bus. There are two options north of the city centre, a traffic-free route that involves a very steep climb (the city’s official signposted route in fact), or you can ride along the Wicker and up Spital Hill, more traffic but cycle lanes most of the way and a much easier and lower climb.
The ride north might be a challenge at first if you are not too fit since there is a long climb from the city centre, but on the other hand it’s a great way to get fit. Once you have built up your strength it’s not too difficult and good exercise every day. Coming back to the city centre from the hospital is pretty well downhill all the way.
